Air Conditioning, generally we think of the Air Conditioning unit and the outlets in your ceiling. In other words, the components you can see. Although these components are important, there is so much more to an Air Conditioning system that will determine if you are comfortable or even comfortable turning the system on at all.
Yes, you may have heard of or experienced zoning, however, the type of airflow management system you choose, which is how the air is managed from the unit to the outlet, will determine how comfortable you will be throughout the home, or how energy efficient your system is capable of being.
Common ‘Bugbears’ of Air Conditioning
Some of the biggest ‘bugbears’ that people experience in Air Conditioning outside of poor service and careless installations are the following:
- Costs too much to run, I never want to turn it on;
- Unit is undersized and struggles when it’s hot and I need it the most;
- Upstairs is hot, and downstairs is freezing;
- The north west facing rooms are still warm when the south east rooms are freezing;
- Fully controlled systems are very expensive; and
- The constant or ‘dump’ zone is uncontrollable.

Unit Fan Speed Control
Most people we speak to regard energy efficiency and temperature control as the two most important features to them in choosing an Air Conditioning System. iZone combines a seriously smart air-conditioning controller and temperature control via air flow management to ensure iZone only uses the energy it needs to achieve your desired comfort.
When we design and commission your system, we are telling the iZone system exactly what percentage of the unit’s capacity is required to achieve the temperature in each room. If you only have one or two bedrooms on, the iZone system controls the units fan speed to low, meaning the unit is drawing far less power. This is also the case when many of your rooms have reached temperature and no longer require airflow, the airflow is redirected to the rooms that require it and also ramps the unit down to what is required.

Economy Modes
‘Scrooge Mode’
To further save on those energy costs, iZone includes a ‘Scrooge’ or economy mode. If the kids put the Air Conditioning down to 16 degrees or up to 30 degrees, it doesn’t matter because the system will still only work to achieve a pleasant 22 degrees in winter and 24 degrees in summer, despite the kids thinking they are working to achieve the unachievable.
iSave – Fresh Air (Option)
With the iZone system doing the thinking for you, via iSave sensors, our iSave system will recognisethat the outside air temperature is cooler than inside the home, which happens often in the summer months, and will bring in the cool air from a summers night and use this to cool your home. This shuts off the Air Conditioners compressor, meaning you are cooling your home with the fan only! This can save you a lot of money, allows you to keep windows and doors closed for security and ensures this air remains filter.
Like to bring in some fresh air at night, but don’t want the room to get too cold? Many people like the idea of sleeping with fresh air. You can manually run your fresh air system overnight and let the room sensors and airflow managementsystem ensure the room doesn’t get too cold. This can be especially important in the kids’ room.

The iZone system is compatible with free IFTTT (‘if this then that’) technology, allowing you to set custom commands for your Air Conditioner such as, turn my Air Conditioning on if the home’s internal temperature rises above 26 degrees, or automatically turn my Air Conditioner off if I’m more than 500m from my home.

There are several airflow management systems in the market, and of course iZone provides those benefits, however, its what iZone does beyond this that is the point of difference, and they are pretty important!

- Automated floating senor – Standard systems have a selected temperature sensor, often in the return air that tells the unit it can now switch off, this isn’t ideal when the sun moves across the house and that particular zone may not be the best measure of when a unit should switch off. iZone has floating sensor control which means any sensor can be the sensor to tell the unit to ramp down and/or switch off.
